Supergrid – The Big Picture
Supergrid will transform the way Europe sources energy, generates power, distributes electricity and manages markets to bring low cost power to the consumer.
Supergrid is designed to deliver power from large scale renewable energy clusters to existing grids at centres of consumption. By its design the Supergrid will provide the infrastructure for a single electricity market.
Supergrid will be built out in phases, and Phase One is designed connect the current crop of planned offshore wind farms in the North Sea to existing grids. The energy from wind generation clusters off the east coast of the UK, including the Hornsea Zone, are connected together and interconnected with the German and Belgian North Sea clusters, Norwegian Hydro Power and load centres in UK, Belgium and Southern Germany.
