In 2010, SMart Wind launched a four-year initiative called SMart Futures which is engaging up to fifty-six schools in the Humber area. Aimed at Year 9 (13 & 14 year old) pupils, it seeks to raise awareness of STEM (Science Technology, Engineering & Maths) subjects as a preferred route to jobs and careers in offshore wind and renewables. The programme includes a competition to name each of the eight separate wind farm Blocks which will make up the Hornsea Zone. The programme is both fun and educational and is being delivered in collaboration with our local partners, Humber Engineering Training Association (HETA).
Statement from HETA Board Member, Martyn Kemp (Competence Assurance and Technical Training Manager Centrica Energy). “I endorse this further development of the regional Green STEM programme as a Trustee of HETA and indeed the Technical Training Manager for Centrica Energy's Power Generation Business. I have had long standing support from Humber STEM and see the relationship as a proactive partnership inspiring young people and educationalists through appropriate activities.”
