Offshore Wind Presentation at Franklin College

Thursday, April 16, 2017

Chris Jenner, Energy Comparison Company, presented to students at Franklin College to raise awareness of the opportunities within the offshore wind industry, including updates of the projects within the UK Zone. The students all had a specific interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) and all raised very relevant questions regarding the importance of offshore wind to UK energy security, meeting climate change targets and the resultant local opportunities that will arise through other initiatives within the Humber region, such as Green Port Hull and the Able Marine Energy Park in North Lincolnshire, which are ideally located to support the imminent commencement of construction of the Round 3 Zones off the east coast of England.

Chris also provided an insight into the wide range of qualifications, skills and expertise required for offshore wind farm development, construction and maintenance, ranging from mechanical and electrical engineering through to environmental specialists, offshore maintenance, logistics managers, lawyers, data managers and many other occupations. There was particular interest from the students and teachers with regard to the outcome of the General Election and how this could influence the shape of UK industry.
