Developing the Zone

Phased approach

SMart Wind is taking forward a phased development programme. In order to deliver 4GW, the Hornsea Zone will be divided into ‘Subzones’ of differing capacity.

Given the scale of the Hornsea Zone, we will undertake information collection and analysis at a Zone level to inform regional context and to validate location of future Projects, and at a Subzone level to inform consent applications for each Project.

Surveys

We are currently conducting a number of offshore surveys including; bird and marine mammals, benthic ecology, geophysical, geotechnical, navigation and metocean data collection. Onshore surveys have also been carried out, including habitat, protected species and archaeology surveys.
